This is following her foster child receiving an award at our annual fostering celebration of achievement for acting like a 10 year old rather than a grown up.

The importance of making sure that a looked after child is heard


Recent recommendations from the House of Commons EducationSelect Committee’s report on children’s homes include the importance of making sure that a child’s view is taken into account when recruiting care staff. On the same day the University of Oxford’s Rees Centre released a blog post on the importance of making sure a foster child has input into decisions that affect them.

So what is LGBT Fostering and Adoption Week?

It’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender fostering week. We hear you ask: “But I can’t foster because of my sexuality?” Well that’s not true. Anyone who has the ability to help a child or young person reach their potential can foster, regardless of their sexuality.

Moving a foster child onto adoption

Rebecca and her partner Martin started fostering eight years ago and joined St Christopher’s two years ago. Over that time they have looked after two girls and six boys. They currently have three siblings placed with them. They are experienced at helping foster children to move on to adoption.
