Yesterday we spent the day talking to customers at High
Chelmer in Chelmsford about fostering. This was a great opportunity for us to
raise awareness of the need for thousands more foster carers across the UK.
Fostering is a life-changing decision that will affect you
and your family, which is why we like to get out in the local community and
answer your questions. These are some of the questions we are often asked.
Do I need a spare
room for each foster child?
Yes, each foster child needs a room of their own, though
very young brothers and sisters can share a room if the foster placement is a
sibling group.
What is the
difference between fostering and adoption?
Adoption is becoming the legal parent of a child who can’t
live with his or her parents or family. Fostering is looking after someone
else’s child. Although some children are fostered until they grow up, most
return to their families.
What training and
support do you provide?
St Christopher’s has an excellent and comprehensive training
and support package that we offer to our foster carers, including training
courses and monthly support groups. For full details visit our website.
A big thank you to High Chelmers for having us yesterday, we
look forward to continuing to work with you in the future.
We have a great section on our website that covers some of
the most commonly asked questions about fostering, so please
take the time to have a read.
