Final thoughts on National Autism Awareness Month

Throughout April we have been sharing our foster carers experiences of fostering autistic children for National Autism Awareness Month. To sum it all up we wanted to do one final blog post that pulls it all together.

We started the month by sharing Cynthia’s experience of fostering a child with autism, hyperactivity disorder, eurensis, oppositional defiance disorder and ADHD. She covered a variety of topics including the first time she met him, settling in, getting a routine going and overcoming bathroom fears.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading them as much as we did. Discussions in the office have suggested that Cynthia’s posts were something that foster carers and parents from a range of backgrounds could identify with. Please leave a comment below if you have any ideas for future blog content.

This was followed by Connie who shared her honest experience of fostering an autistic teenager, looking at the challenges, achievements and lessons learnt. Connie touches on the training and support that we provide that has supported her every step of the way.

Bringing us to a very important final note, National Autism Awareness Month is important to St Christopher’s because we are supporting young people with autism and other special needs all the time. We are looking for people that can provide a loving and caring home for a child or young person who needs it. If you think you could foster a child with autism or special needs please contact us today on 0800 234 6282 or request a call back.
